Midas the Owl is the mascot of the Raptor Rescue Kids zone and he's here to help you learn all about raptors and owls. What you may not know is that Midas was a real owl that was rescued by Raptor Rescue. Here is his story...

Midas the European Eagle Owl was rescued from a rabbit hutch. He had been so cramped that all his feathers on top of his head were gone from rubbing against the roof and mesh. His beak was twisted and full of maggots. He was taken in by one of our rehabilitators and with some tender loving care and a very good vet, he fully recovered from his injuries.

Midas was such a happy character that it was decided to use him for fundraising at the Raptor Rescue shows. Raptor Rescue is primarily for wild injured birds of prey but Midas did his bit for the charity for a number of years. He lived a very happy life but in early 2006 Midas sadly passed away.

His spirit will live on, helping as the new mascot on our website.
